Kentucky's Sixth H1N1-Related Death Reported in Scott County

Scott County’s first H1N1-related death has been confirmed, involving a 39-year-old man with no significant underlying chronic health conditions.

“We are saddened by the news of this death. We will continue our strong community efforts in taking necessary steps to prevent the flu this season and hope that people in the community will continue as well,” said Crystal Caudill, MPH, Public Health Director of the Wedco District Health Department. “Getting vaccinated is the number one way to prevent the flu.”

This marks the state's sixth reported H1N1-related death.

The 2009 H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine is beginning to become available in small amounts. More vaccine is expected to arrive in the coming weeks. Clinic dates and times for the public to receive H1N1 vaccine from local health departments will be posted as they are scheduled around the state. Contact the Kentucky Department for Public Health's influenza hotline at 1(877)843-7727 for more information about H1N1 or seasonal influenza.
