The Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) is reporting regional flu activity to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) this week.

Regional activity is the second highest level of flu activity, and is defined by the CDC as: "Outbreaks of influenza or increases in ILI and recent laboratory confirmed influenza in at least two but less than half the regions of the state with recent laboratory evidence of influenza in those regions." Previously, the state had reported the past six weeks at the widespread designation.

Despite the drop in activity level, surveillance reports submitted to health officials indicated significant flu activity is still taking place in central Kentucky, Jefferson County and the Green River area. Cases were also reported in other parts of the state. Flu vaccine is still readily available for those who have not yet been vaccinated.
