Governor Steve Beshear convened a Pandemic Influenza Summit on Sept. 3, 2009, at the Frankfort Convention Center, bringing together public and private stakeholders to increase the state's preparation to respond to the ongoing 2009 H1N1 (swine flu) pandemic.
The summit allowed more than 1,200 people to learn about Kentucky's capacity to respond to the expected surge in 2009 H1N1 cases during the fall and to gain the information needed to prepare their organization for the continuation of the pandemic.
Target audiences included business, public and private K-12 education, secondary education, law enforcement and public safety agencies, health care workers and faith-based organizations.
Public health experts discussed the current 2009 H1N1 situation and what to expect in the coming months. Representatives from schools, businesses and health care organizations discussed current pandemic flu plans and preparedness activities. Breakout sessions encouraged detailed information sharing on these topics and more. The day's activities were also Webcast live.
