The Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) is reporting sporadic flu activity to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) this week.
Sporadic activity is the second highest level of flu activity, and is defined by the CDC as: "Small numbers of laboratory-confirmed influenza cases or a single laboratory-confirmed influenza outbreak has been reported, but there is no increase in cases of ILI."
Previously, the state had reported regional activity. Surveillance reports submitted to health officials indicate that overall reports of influenza-like illness have decreased, although clusters of flu activity continue in some areas. Flu vaccine is still readily available for those who have not yet been vaccinated.
